“Highly Cited Researchers” for the Fourth Year in a Row

On November 16, it was announced that Clarivate Analytics had ranked Dr. Kwon Ick Chan and Dr. Kim Kwangmeyung from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST)’s Biomedical Research Institute among this year’s Highly Cited Researchers.

Clarivate Analytics compiled their list of 3,300 Highly Cited Researches after evaluating over 130,000 research articles published by 900 institutions between January 2005 and December 2015. This was the fourth year in a row that Dr. Kwon Ick Chan and Dr. Kim Kwangmeyung were included in the rankings―an accomplishment matched by only 4 of the other 26 Korean researchers on the list.

Clarivate Analytics has been announcing its list of Highly Cited Researchers every year since 2014, relying on the Web of Science’s research database to provide citation analysis for researchers from every country and in every field.

Dr. Kwon Ick Chan is a renowned authority on theragnosis and has published around 400 research papers in such SCI journals as Nature. His research has been cited about 19,000 times. In 2014, the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST) presented him with their Science and Technology Award.

Dr. Kim Kwangmeyung is a prominent researcher in the field of nanomedicine and has published about 400 research papers over the last 5 years. His research has been cited about 10,000 times, and his work in using fusion protein nanoparticles to diagnose and treat cancer was listed among the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST)’s Top Ten Science & Technology Breakthroughs for 2014.
