The Hongneung Clustering Project Group Holds Public Design Contest
The Hongneung Clustering Project Group will hold a public design contest under the theme “Ancient Futures: Hongneung Science Cluster.” With participation from 17 institutions located throughout the Hongneung area―including the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Kyunghee University, and Korea University―the project group aims to refashion Hongneung into an S&T innovation cluster that will help spur national growth. The contest encourages people to create a unique environment for the Hongneung area―an environment that expresses beauty and creativity in addition to scientific functionality.
The contest focuses on several public spaces and facilities located throughout the Dongdaemun and Seongbuk areas. It is divided into two categories: spatial design and landscape architecture (i.e. signboards, streetlights, gates, etc.). A total of around 17 million KRW in prizes will be awarded to the top five entries in each section, and they will receive public exhibition sometime in January 2019.
The contest is open to anyone 18 years or older, and entries can be submitted via the official contest website, www.hrcluster.kr. Detailed contest information (written in Korean) can be found at the site, as well.
Dr. Yoon Seok-Jin, vice-president of KIST and head of the Hongneung Clustering Project Group, expressed his hope that “every interested citizen will take part in the contest, which aims to brand Hongneung’s history and identity while reinforcing its image as a future science cluster.”
