KIST and SIT Join Forces to Tackle Pressing Urban Issues

On February 28 at its headquarters in Seoul, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) signed an MoU with the Seoul Institute of Technology (SIT).

The MoU was intended to foster cooperation in developing practical/empirical applicable technologies through exchanges of personnel, information, and technology in order to tackle urban issues in Seoul related to such things as energy, the environment, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

KIST President Lee Byung Gwon stated that the MOU offered “a good model for enhancing urban environments, increasing civil safety, and meeting public interests.” He also hoped that it would spur cooperation among other government-funded research institutes in order to improve Korean citizens’ quality of life and resolve pressing social problems.

KIST has long devoted itself to urban environment-related technologies, particularly ones promoting environmental welfare and clean energy. In fact, it is currently hosting the government’s Center for Particulate Air Pollution and Health, leading the national project for conducting R&D on particulate matter-caused air pollution.

As the primary R&D institution for investigating microdust-reduction technologies, SIT has played a central role in developing cutting-edge technologies related to such things as smart cities and new/renewable forms of energy in order to help local governments adapt to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
