KIST, NIA, and the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office Sign Agreement
- Conducting forensic investigations via “smart” information technology

On December 22, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) signed a cooperative agreement for informatizing Korea’s criminal justice system.

Under this agreement, the three organizations will closely cooperate to develop, introduce, and utilize “smart” information technology and execute criminal-justice-related business plans.

Intelligence/data-gathering in regard to such things as evidence, crime scene processing materials, CCTV and black box video footage, and digital forensic techniques* will heighten public safety by increasing case-resolution rates and reducing investigation periods.
* Digital forensic techniques: Uncovering clues by analyzing digital information stored on Web sites, PCs, laptops, mobile phones, etc

KIST will focus on developing new technology for “smart,” information-based forensic analysis, including face recognition and identification software, crime scene reconstruction techniques, and mass event searches.
