KIST 한국과학기술연구원 Korea Institute of Science and Technology

Research Activities

  • This center was established in May 1987 to promote the widespread use of fuel cells and has since led Korea’s research into new fuel cells.
  • The Clean Energy Research Center was established to develop source technology for producing high value-added compounds using principles and materials related to the carbon (carbon dioxide) cycle.
  • The Sensor System Research Center, formerly the Photonics Research Center (opened in 1996), combined the Applied Optics Research Lab (opened in 1972) and the Optoelectronics Research Lab (opened in 1986), and is now dedicated to conducting research on optics and photonics.
  • With energy shortages now rampant, the Photo-electronic Hybrids Research Center sets strategies for achieving absolute energy stability. It also seeks ways of shifting toward new, renewable energy sources in order to overcome current energy crises.
