KIST Gangneung and Mongolia Together Create Green Bio Research Cooperation Network
On June 14th, the KIST Gangneung Institute of Natural Products (Director General: Joon-Yeon Chang) signed a multilateral MOU with the National University of Mongolia, Mongolian University of Life Sciences, Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, and Institute of Biology, a government-funded research institute under the Mongolian Academy of Sciences to develop original technologies, promote industrialization-linked cooperation programs, and establish a mutual cooperation system at the National University of Mongolia.
Under this research cooperation system, the five participating organizations intend to jointly develop original technologies for discovering functional materials derived from Mongolian medicinal plants and establishing functional plant cultivation technologies for smart farms previously set up by KIST in Mongolia in 2018.
In addition, through regular Korea-Mongolia joint research workshops, information on each institution's research field can be shared, and international cooperation projects can be pursued by Korean government ministries to establish a mid- to long-term joint research roadmap and commercialization system using Mongolian medicinal plants.
Joon-Yeon Chang, Director General of the KIST Gangneung Institute of Natural Products, remarked, "We have established an efficient cooperation system to apply high value-added functional materials from another country to the green bio industry through the development of natural materials and smart farm-based production technologies secured by the KIST Gangneung Institute of Natural Products."
