Dr. Kwon Ick Chan and Dr. Kim Kwangmeyung Ranked as “Highly Cited Researchers” for the Fifth Year in a Row
On November 28, it was announced that Clarivate Analytics (formerly the "Intellectual Property and Science" business of Thomson Reuters) once again ranked Dr. Kwon Ick Chan and Dr. Kim Kwangmeyung from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST)’s Biomedical Research Institute among this year’s Highly Cited Researchers (HCRs).
Clarivate Analytics compiled their list of 6,000 HCRs after evaluating research articles published during the past ten years. This was the fifth year in a row that Dr. Kwon Ick Chan and Dr. Kim Kwangmeyung were included in the rankings for Pharmacology & Toxicology.
Of the fifty Korean researchers listed among this year’s HCRs, only seven of them―including Dr. Kwon and Dr. Kim―have made the list five years in a row.
Reuters has been announcing its list of Highly Cited Researchers every year since 2014. The list is compiled by using the Web of Science’s research database, an online scientific citation indexing service for over 33,000 academic journals, to analyze citations of researchers from every country and every field.
Dr. Kwon Ick Chan is a renowned authority on theragnosis and has published around 400 research papers in SCI journals such as Nature. His research has been cited around 19,000 times. In 2014, the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST) presented him with their Science and Technology Award.
Dr. Kim Kwangmeyung is a prominent researcher in the field of nanomedicine and has published roughly 110 research papers over the last 5 years. His research has been cited about 10,000 times, and his work in using fusion protein nanoparticles to diagnose and treat cancer was listed among the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST)’s Top Ten Science & Technology Breakthroughs for 2014.
